Budget carrier Cebu Pacific is expanding its operations in China after passenger volume in the northern Asia route surged.
The budget carrier said its customer base in China had increased by 30 percent in the third quarter of 2011 after its maiden flight to Beijing on September 5 last year.
Cebu Pacific said it would increase its Manila-Beijing service to four times weekly starting January 7.
“China is the next growth area for Cebu Pacific. We already serve Northern and Southern China with our current routes, but additional connectivity between our two countries will only benefit tourism and trade,” Candice Iyog, vice president for marketing and distribution, said Thursday.
Cebu Pacific currently flies thrice weekly to Beijing and Guangzhou, and daily to Shanghai. Its expanded China operations include daily flights from Manila to Taipei, up to six daily flights to Hong Kong from Manila, Clark and Cebu, and 11 weekly flights to Macau from Manila and Clark.
Iyog said the Philippines, being the nearest trpoical desitnation, had become popular popular to Chinese tourists. She added that a lot of companies in the Philippines get their materials from China.
“There is a lot of potential for growth, as we take delivery of more planes,” Iyog said.
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific has reduced its fares to China and Taipei by as much as 63 percent in a seat sale from October 21 to 23, 2011 or until seats last.
